Mormon Church Now Admits Founder Joseph Smith Had About 40 Wives

The Mormon church has admitted that its founder Joseph Smith married about 40 women, including a 14-year-old and others who were already the wives of his followers.  This ends the official position, maintained for nearly 200 years, that Mr Smith was monogamous.         In a church essay entitled "Plural Marriage in Kirtland and Nauvoo,” the Mormon church finally admitted that Joseph Smith married many additional wives and authorized other Latter-day Saints to practice plural marriage.  The essay further noted that "Plural marriage was difficult for all involved. For Joseph Smith's wife Emma, it was an excruciating ordeal."
The church, founded in 1830, banned polygamy in 1890 when the U.S. government threatened to deny Utah statehood.  Until 1978, black people (who the Church says originated from fallen angels), were barred from higher priesthood in the church.  Joseph Smith died in a shoot-out in a Carthage jail. The Mormon church fanatically insists that Mr Smith was a prophet of God, the quintessential model “latter day Saint.”
