The Gambia has called
off the bluff of the EU which is subtly threatening to withhold 150 million
euros aid package unless that country had a re-think on its anti-homosexual
stance. Gambian Foreign Minister Bala
Garba Jahumpa said the country’s President Yahya Jammeh would not allow foreign
countries to use aid as a lever to impose policies on the Banjul
government. Last month, the Gambian leader had signed a law criminalizing
what is termed “aggravated homosexuality.”
In a related development, Uganda
which caved in to Western nations by technically (via
Court ruling) suspending her anti-gay law earlier in the year is set to
re-introduce the legislation, by Christmas.
Similarly, Russia is not relenting in her anti-gay posture as the
Constitutional Court of Russia has recently affirmed the law banning homosexual
propaganda among the under-age. LGBT
activists had earlier filed a complaint on the law.
