Satanists sue to erect Baphomet statue at Oklahoma’s Capitol

       Meanwhile, challenges to the influence of the Church continues unabated in other climes -wherever society has been shy to call a spade a spade with respect to the occult.

From Oklahoma city, the famed buckle of the Bible belt in the US, comes the news that the Satanic Temple (based in New York) has formally submitted a proposal to build a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan - based on the image of the goat-headed Baphomet - to adorn the Oklahoma state Capitol. 

The satanic organization was reacting to the decision of the Oklahoma Legislature in 2012 to authorize a privately funded Ten commandments monument at the Capitol.  Since all religions are adjudged equally valid in the United States, then authorizing a Christian monument, even in a clearly predominant Christian state like Oklahoma, must make way for similar monuments by other equally-valid religions and spiritual expressions”!

The Satanist Temple is specifically proposing that the satanic statue be located at the same location currently occupied by the Ten Commandments monument in anticipation of its removal as the American Civil Liberties Union has sued for.  Other groups which have submitted proposals for their own monuments and statues (in protesting the approval of the Christian monument) include a Hindu leader in Nevada, an animal rights group and the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
